There are three main health dangers associated with outlook to airborne asbestos: asbestosis, or thickening and scarring of the lung tissue; lung cancer, and mesothelioma, cancer of the pleura or peritoneum.

This handbook fits out a code of practice in succession safety in the use of asbestos bring forward together at the ILO's behest on experts in the field. The book's practical recommendations range from the particular labeling of asbestos-containing products to the disposal of asbestos waste.

The digest is not intended to replace national laws or regulations, yet to provide guidance to those in the public and private sectors who have responsibility for safety and health in the use of asbestos.
