Don Schumacher, a pioneer of drag racing, is completing a recent 107,000-sq.-foot, $5 million facility in Brownsburg Ind., which will house his NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series racing teams for 2005 Appropriately titled Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) this expansive operation will have place for 14, 18-wheel transporters, engine stores for Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Bike, a abounding fabrication shop, a full machine workshop and all of the Don Schumacher Racing administrative offices. "I'm excited to be able to expand into this just discovered facility. It allows me to state the technology, equipment and population in one structure that will allow them to work together," says the 1970 U Nationals comical Car champion. "It's really imperative to my operation to be able to expand into this kind of space and have it be a brand-new building with first-class equipment in it." Plans call for the DSR operation to cover 77,000 sq. feet of the L-shaped building, with the remaining 30000 sq feet slated for six 5000-sq-foot suites. The 15.5-acre site is located along Northfield Drive in Brownsburg just three miles west of Indianapolis Raceway Park. "DSR has grown dramatically since I came back into the sport in September of 1998 to what it is today," says Schumacher, who publicly fields the largest racing organization in NHRA history. Racing teams include the Matco Tools Iron Eagle Dodge Stratus driven according to Whit Bazemore, the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Stratus governed by Gary Scelzi and the Ron Capps-piloted Brut Dodge Stratus in the humorous Car class. Also included are reigning Top material for burning Champion Tony Schumacher, in the U Army Dragster; Antron Brown and Angelle Sampey, in succession the U.S. Army Pro Stock motorcycles; and Pro Stock car drivers Jeg Coughlin Jr in the Jeg's Mail Order/Mopar Dodge Stratus and Richie Steven in the Team Mopar Hemi-powered Dodge Stratus.
