GSC Motorsports has decided to make the foray into wholesale distribution. The Charleston, S.C.-based retailer of high-end tuner accessories made the announcement in an effort to accommodate its increasing number of wholesale customers. "Due to the overwhelming number of sales in novel months, we have decided to split the company into three divisions," says GSC President Greg Caloudas. In addition to GSC Motorsports, the company has revolveed out the GSC Power Division, a private-label parts production and sales division, as well as the of the present day wholesale division. Unlike many companies in the tuner market that apply the mind for nontraditional means of distribution, GSC started as a dominant online business that is now investing in the more traditional channels. "We were doing in this way well in the retail (segment) that we were picking up more [i]or[/i] less manufacturing lines buying direct," says James Innes, GSC Motorsports vice president. although he adds, "Right now, we're picking and choosing what lines we pick up" For now, GSC will persuade product to the smaller specialized shops "We're targeting smaller local sport compact performance shops" Innes adds. "They can call us and ask advice (and) as they become greater [i]or[/i] larger they'll want direct contact with the manufacturers." A hap more manufacturers are policing prices to make sure better profit margins down to the wholesaler and retailer, which is a reason GSC formed its be in possession of private label division. "We be warmed that if we produce the effect and we market the produce then we control the pricing," says Innes.
